Weyanoke Association Coming Together Festival
The opening ceremony will include an acknowledgement and honoring of all the people who have lived on the lands where we’ll gather and contributed to its history: Native Americans, enslaved Africans, and European colonists. We will recognize descendants of each of those groups who will be participants in the ceremony, which will honor the ancestors and invite them to bless and support us in the work we will be doing there. Each of those representing the descendants will be invited to make a contribution to an altar that will be maintained in an honored place throughout the gathering.
All conference participants will also be invited to bring a family photo or other meaningful object that connects them to their family, and contribute to ancestor altars in various locations during the conference.
